Troubleshoot Steps for non functioning Refrigeration Units:

  1. Fan blades do not come on when the unit is first plugged in. It takes around 20 min or so for the pressure to build up 25 psi and the evaporator fans to turn on / kick in. 
  2. Set Temperature / Thermostat : The thermostat is located inside the box on the side of the evaporator coil on the small box with the 3 fans on it.  There is about a 5 to 15 temperature difference on the inside of the box and the set point because the temperature bulb is outside the 3 fan evaporator box and workers go in and out of the refrigeration trailer.  Therefore you will need to turn the unit down an extra 5 to 15 degrees. 
  3. Power Shortage: Cord is only meant to go 50 ft and must be AWG # 4.Extreme heat on the cord and long distance will cause the unit to turn off. Check the power of the unit 208 min/240 max, volts and 60 amps on the start and 20 running amps. Unit will not power up if receiving less than 187 volts and there is no sensor on the unit to let customers know that they are low on volts.  
  4. Extreme heat / Humidity above 100 degrees leaving the door open will cause the Ice to build up around the evaporator and the unit will turn off In order to Avoid this Follow these Simple Steps:
    1. Clean dirty evaporator coil.  Unit coil could be in a dusty area and need cleaning. 
    2. Set Defrost Timer to Go On and off more frequently.  
    3. Attach a plastic curtain to the door to stop dry cold air from leaving the refrigeration unit   
    4. Tell kitchen staff to go in and out the box less frequently. 
  5. Popping Breakers: Unit is in extreme heat or being used heavily. The condensing coils collect dirt and block the cooling of the motor. The motor will shut down or pop the contactor out. Lightly Pressure Wash the coil regularly. The coil is aluminum and will break if water is at high pressure. (Very important !.)   
  6. PSI Pressure :  The pressure gauge is located on the outside near the compressor box . (digital display with red numbers / psi gauge).  When the psi reaches 25 the compressor should come on. Follow the steps :
    1. Check the evaporator for ice build up behind the unit and remove.
    2. Thermostat: Adjust Thermostat setting located inside the unit on the 3 fan evaporator.     
    3. Defrost mode: If the unit is in refrigeration mode the light is green and if the light is red then the unit is in defrost mode. 
  7. Dlt alarm code / P3 Sensor: High ambient temperature or Low on Refrigerant or Refrigerant Flow (set to 20 degrees fahrenheit. TXV / Superheat must be 220 degrees fahrenheit ) 225 degree discharge line of temperature causes the unit to shut off.a solution would be: Clean the Coil with water hose lightly remove all dirt so coil can cool refrigerant down, If does not work a technician may need to be called to add refrigerant. Unit can also be moved to a shaded area. Summary: 
    1. Low on refrigerant 
    2. high ambient temperature – Clean condensing coil with water hose.
  8. Dll alarm code / P3 Sensor: Dlt alarm is when Dil alarm code has gone off 5 times in a row and now the unit is  locked off. High ambient temperature or Low on Refrigerant or Refrigerant Flow (set to 20 degrees fahrenheit. TXV / Superheat must be 220 degrees fahrenheit ) 225 degrees discharge line temperature causes the unit to shut down
    Solution: Clean the Coil with water hose lightly remove all dirt so that the coil can cool refrigerant down, If it does not work technician may need to be called to add refrigerant. Unit can also be moved to a shaded area. (Must turn the breaker off to reset the Dll alarm code or the unit will not turn back on).
  1. Alarm Sensor Codes :
    P1 is superheat sensor ( Intake compressor) 
    P2 Is Coil Sensor (Temperature of coil)
    P3 ( Discharge sensor).   
  2. HP is a rare code: Head pressure above 440 PSI ,might result in fan not running, condenser blocked or extreme ambient temperature above 120 degrees. Clean coil or move the unit in shaded area close to make sure the 2 fans are working behind the coil, typically error messages will happen if fans are not working the Unit does not come on.
    ( Motor Overload Trip – No error code): High amp draw is caused by hot weather, hot ambient temperature causes motor compressors, Low voltage lower than 187 volts unit will not come on and the unit may need to be manually started from the contactor or wait until the temperature cools down. (There is no error code on the controller.)
  1. Defrost Manually:Check for ice building up on the back of the evaporator; the ice can be melted by manual defrost located  on the outside of the unit in the small gray box just outside the compressor. Then you will see a green light that says refrigeration and a red  light that says defrost. When the light is green the unit is on refrigeration spin the entire dial until it goes red for defrost. It takes about 30 min to defrost and after 30 min the unit Will return to refrigeration and the unit will turn back on by itself.
